I live in Northern Michigan along the northernmost shore of Lake Michigan. I hike all year round. Swim season is my absolute favorite time of year. I call it my Sanctuary soaking time. I can't get enough of long hikes along the shoreline and all kinds of animal friends to share the woods and shore with.

Jill that sounds heavenly! How cold is the water? I love open water swimming. Unfortunately here in Yellowstone the water is COLD!

Hi Jenny, the water temp is in the low 40s. We've had cold weather for about a month, and it hasn't helped warm the lake up. I tried swimming yesterday, but I only went to my waist. I'll make up for lost time as soon as it warms up - twice-daily swims will be perfect. What a bummer for you about the COLD Yellowstone water. That would be a fantastic place to swim.

That is a beautiful part of the world. I spent a summer in the upper peninsula in Eagle River. I have to get back. still remember that icy water in Lake superior. Can you believe I didn’t go to

Isle Royale when I was there? I was working doing research on the spruce budworm the summer after I graduated from Michigan State and to me it was a day off! still enjoyed it at the shore though.

I’m just now realizing what a treasure Isle Royal is! There are so many places and wild spots to see in Michigan.

This is gorgeous - the words and the photos. I'm in Colorado (but grew up in Philly!) and I am more and more of a nature woman with every year of my life. It's my favorite way to feel my smallness in relationship to the vastness and to simply be in awe.

I live in the Canadian equivalent of this landscape, and I say the same thing to my family each end-spring early summer! I kid you not! But it really is such a beautiful time of the year in these types of locations. I hope you have a wonderful June. 🙂

Ah Yvette, you understand! There is a harshness to these landscapes much of the year, and June seems to soften it a bit.

I decided early this year that I would not plan any travel this summer away from this beautiful spot in the world, the Yellowstone region, my home. And I have loved being able to focused more on home, watching my garden flowers grow and the Bluebirds going through their cycle of nesting & fledging their young, and watching the prairie wildflowers, tiny as they are, grow and pop with color. It is so comforting in these difficult times of unrest & uncertainty, to be truly present for the beauty of the natural cycles taking place all around me. June is one of my favorite months and I feel blessed to be able to experience all it offers us … my heart craves this peace.

Loved this writing and completely agree. The awakening of new life and the vibrant color stirs emotions deep inside of me. I am an outdoor girl and this is a favorite time of year.

Late September feels this way to me where I live on Cape Cod. The weather is still warm and the crowds have thinned and in the early morning hours, I have the beach all to myself and my dog Jasper, the early risers in our family! Oh, and also the migrating shore birds share the beach with us in the droves!!
